Huge rally in support of 'peacemaker' Gerry Adams in Belfast 4. May 2014 | An Phoblacht HUGE crowds gathered on the Falls Road in Belfast on Saturday afternoon to demand the release of Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams. A mural was launched at the event in support of the imprisoned republican leader. Many of those at the event carried posters calling for his release and comparing him to Nelson Mandela. Others condemned the arrest as an attack on the Peace Process. The North's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, spoke to the crowd describing the arrest of the Louth TD as being "designed to disrupt the election campaign". McGuinness also queried how some could claim the timing of the arrest was not a very blatant act of political policing: "The PSNI has had the Boston tapes for a year. The allegations contained in books and newspaper articles which the PSNI are presenting to Gerry as evidence that he was in the IRA in the 1970s have been around for 40 years. But they are only now trying to use these. Is that not political policing?" He also hit out at the double standards at play in terms of the failure of the PSNI to arrest those British soldiers behind the Ballymurphy or Bloody Sunday massacres. The Mid-Ulster MLA added: "Gerry Adams stands head and shoulders above all of those who helped build the peace process. He is a peace maker, a leader, a visionary. There would be no peace process but for his commitment and dedication. Gerry Adams is committed to moving this process forward."
Justice hopes for Leo Norney 26.4.2014 | Irish Republican News
A fresh inquest has been ordered into the British state killing of a teenager in west Belfast in 1975.
Seventeen-year-old Leo Norney was murdered by soldiers from the Black Watch regiment of the British Army just minutes after he got out of a taxi in the Springfield Road area of west Belfast on September 13 1975.
Following his death the British Army tried to claim that the teenager was one of two ‘gunmen’ who had opened fire on one of their
patrols. Lies were later spread about the shooting and pressure put on the coroner’s office to say there was ‘gun residue’ on the
teenager’s hands.

Arrested for promoting Easter Lily 17.4.2014 | Mark Moloney (An Phoblacht)
THE PSNI has been slammed after a Sinn Féin party activist was arrested and another cautioned for
promoting the Easter Lily in Omagh, County Tyrone.
The incident happened on Wednesday night,
16 April, in Gortmore Park in the town.
Omagh Council Chairperson and Sinn Féin Councillor Marty McColgan told An Phoblacht this was
"political policing at its worst".

Sinn Féin’s Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Seán Crowe TD, has strongly criticised US President Barack Obama over his comments that European NATO members need to increase their military spending.
Obama, speaking during a visit to Europe, in which he met NATO’s Secretary-General,
worryingly used the crisis in Ukraine to justify his comments. Deputy Seán Crowe said:
“President Barack Obama’s comments are very worrying and I totally disagree that NATO members need to be increasing their military spending. In my view NATO is nothing more than a cold war relic that needs to be disbanded.

I got an electronic copy of a booklet the other day from one of the cleverest people I know. It was from my old class-mate Eamonn McCann and the booklet was called Go On the Paras…! : Bloody Sunday and the contining search for justice. What’s that – you thought that had all been resolved by David Cameron’s apology? That it’s wrong when fourteen people are gunned down in broad daylight by the forces of the state and that saying ‘I’m sorry’ makes it all right?
