a week of terror against the residents of Short Strand: by loyalist bombs -
and by police attacks

During the last months enemies of the Good Friday Agreement within the loyalist and unionist parties have become louder. With only few exceptions politicians of the UUP and DUP refuse to see the democratic changes agreed on in the Good Friday Agreement as a chance for all. Instead they slam changes as concessions to Irish nationalists and republicans. Their attitude is based on anti-irish and anti-catholic racism. By refusing change they create a dangeros vacuum.

This vacuum is filled by loyalist paramilitaries of the UDA/UFF, who are orchestrating violent pogroms against isolated Irish communities for two years now: hundreds of pipe bomb attacks against houses in Irish communities, attacks on individuals, death threats against catholic teachers and postmen, working in loyalist areas, several people have been killed by the UDA. On almost a daily basis a dull anti-catholic racism leads to "catholics" being beaten up or attacked. Victims are pensioners, massgoers, schoolgirls, men and women.

The British government neglects, ignores, tolerates and uses loyalist violence. The police RUC / PSNI, known for its collusion with loyalist death squads for decades, is either attacking the victims or not reacting at all.
