Irish Republicans Danny Morrison, Pat Sheehan, and Brendan McFarlane
gather at the launch of the book Hunger Strike: Reflections on the 1981
Republican Hunger Strike to give their accounts of one of the most remarkable
prison protests in history - that which occurred in the H-Blocks at Long Kesh
and which resulted in the deaths of 10 men on hunger strike.
Barry Curran has made an excellent film Unbowed Unbroken out of this event.
He covers not only the book launch, which took place in Belfast in August 2006,
but adds even more in depth interviews with Danny Morrison, Pat Sheehan
and Brendan McFarlane and some aspects from the central hunger Strike
commemoration rally, in which over 30.000 people participated.
The first hand informations and reflections give an insight into the hunger strike of 1981
and its huge political impact.
The book "Hunger Strike" covers the experiences of 50 contemporary witnesses from various
backgrounds, from a republican activist to a unionist, from musicians like Christy Moore
to journalists like David Beresford and Anne Cadwallader. The book is published by Brandon:
